The county seat of Hamilton County in southeastern Tennessee, Chattanooga, was established in 1819. A Georgian bordering the Moccasin Bend of the Tennessee River, the municipality is situated approximately 115 miles (185 km) to the north of Atlanta. The headquarters of the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) power system, which has significantly contributed to Chattanooga’s economic development since the 1930s, are located in the city.

Established in 1992, the Tennessee Aquarium is the largest freshwater aquarium in the world. The Siskin Museum of Religious Artifacts, the International Towing and Recovery Hall of Fame and Museum, and the National Knife Museum are some of the city’s peculiar attractions.

A steep incline railway ascends Lookout Mountain, which contains a tunnel housing the 44-meter-tall (145-foot) Ruby Falls; a swinging bridge and peculiar stone formations known as Rock City are located at the summit of the mountain. In the southwestern corner of the city, Raccoon Mountain provides access to cave tours and a TVA power facility. June is when the Riverbend Festival is conducted annually. In addition to providing recreational opportunities, the TVA dam on the Tennessee River that augments Chickamauga Lake also houses Booker T.
